Folwarczna, Aneta ; Lovaš, Karol (advisor) ; Jirků, Jan (referee)
The diploma thesis focuses on the personality of the lawyer and politician Dagmar Buresova. It aims to present the media image of the politician Dagmar Buresova in the Czechoslovak Radio set in the historical and political context of the time. Her political mandate is limited from December 1989 to June 1992. Firstly, she was a Minister of Justice and then a President of the Czech National Council. The empirical part of the thesis examines, with the help of framing analysis, a total of 29 audio recordings from the archive of the Czech Radio in Prague, which are associated with Dagmar Buresova in the context of her active participation in politics. In order to provide a more comprehensive grasp and the possibility of comparing the media images, the author enriched the research part with the analysis of audio recordings from the period outside the active involvement in politics within the Czech Radio until the end of 2022. During this period, the author examined a total of 7 recordings. In addition, for the purposes of this master's thesis, three interviews were also conducted with personalities from various fields, whose answers offer yet another angle on JUDr. Dagmar Buresova.
Visual framing of rwandan genocide in 1994
Macků, Anna ; Géla, František (advisor) ; Silverio, Robert (referee)
The thesis deals with the issue of photographs taken during the Rwandan genocide in 1994. The ethnically motivated conflict, in which the Hutu majority tried to exterminate the Tutsi minority, claimed almost a million victims in a hundred days. The Rwandan genocide is notoriously associated with machetes and radio. Most of the victims were killed with primitive weapons, and the murders of neighbours and family members took place under the influence of a propaganda radio broadcast. The thesis describes how photojournalism in the 1990s reported on such a specific conflict as modern genocide. The thesis uses visual framing analysis, which is based on the theory of framing. After that it was possible to identify the recurring visual frames through which the Rwandan genocide is depicted in the images.
Comparison of Zuzana Čaputová's media image on the most popular Czech and Slovak news servers in a half year to one year since she was elected Slovak President
Fialová, Adéla ; Jirků, Jan (advisor) ; Cebe, Jan (referee)
In March 2019 the 5th direct presidential elections were held in Slovakia. In the first round there were 13 candidates running for the office. The winner after the second round held on March 30th was Zuzana Čaputová. With 58,4 percent of all valid votes she became the first female president of The Slovak republic on June 15. This thesis goes into the comparison of Zuzana Čaputová's media image since being elected on the most visited news web sites in The Czech republic and Slovakia. The goal of the thesis is to compare the quantity and content of information published in both countries and to track possible changes in the media narrative and what has caused them. Using the quantitative method of content analysis and qualitative method of frame analysis of relevant articles published on news websites Novinky.cz and Aktuality.sk I want to monitor the decline, stagnation or rise of media interest in the persona of Zuzana Čaputová in the selected time period. This will help to describe the media image of the president on the Czech and Slovak media scene. The source articles are attached to the thesis.
